Let Me Show You I Can

Written on September 1, 2010 by Francis in Inspiring

Randy Couture did just that on Saturday Night’s UFC match against James Toney.

Randy was lacking in areas that are significant in the UFC World, his punch for instance delivered 300lbs less of force than Toney! Randy’s reach was less and he is also five years older than Toney. Against those odds and the fact that Toney is known as “Lights Out”. Randy took the victory! This ESPN video compared Randy and James (also where I got the information) I watched this before the fight! Randy is an incredible athlete and the video also highlights his strengths!

Randy Couture vs. James Toney was a huge event as it was viewed as “Boxers” vs. “UFC Fighters”.

The secret to Randy Couture’s success is what I have discovered! The secret is that he was in his element! His training of years and his expertise in the sport set him in an entirely different category than James Toney could have prepared for!

Where are you? Are you in your element? What can you change to say. “Let me show you I can” or can you say that today?

P.s. Yes I watch UFC don’t judge!! The boys make me? LOL

I totally agree — being in your element and working hard to improve on what you do makes a world of difference.

Thank you Kayla!! I am a fan of the sport but after seeing the video I was beginning to think that Randy was at a disadvantage…It took him less than 4 min for a K.O. so boy was I wrong! ;)

As a military brat and wife, I’ve had to be out of my element at times and it’s very unsettling.

I agree!! I found a quote that said “Life is about creating yourself not finding yourself” and it has helped me grow no matter where I am! But this is a moment where I feel like my Mother! But I feel a lot can be taken from our experiences! ;)

Francis, I know you watch UFC by choice…don’t blame it on the boys :) . All the reason why I think you’re the best. I actually think Toney was brave getting in there b/c the skills of boxing vs UFC are sooooo different. The cool thing is the UFC brings out the different elements and skills of fighting. This was Bruce Lee’s vision 30 years ago. Great post.

Great piece. I sent it to Facebook so my son could read/watch it. He loves Randy Couture. He missed the most recent Fight Night because he was at the beach with his dad..but last time we went to Hooters to watch. If you can deal with people going insane while you’re trying to watch the fight..it’s a cool place to be. Buffalo Wild Wings is the best place though but ..the closest one is an hour from here.

Anyhow …my son just started training for MMA. He is wrestling and weight-lifting at school and after school he takes Brazilian Jujitsu.

Anyhow..nice talking to you..It’s awesome to find someone as into this stuff as we are :)

Thanks Todd!! I agree that Toney was very brave to enter an arena that was out of his element! Toney has enough going for him including the Boxing “Hall of Fame”! I’m sure this one incident in UFC is not going to change his “Lights Out” reputation!

Thank You for sharing and the best of luck to your Son! The best athletes of the world are our UFC fighters! Keep me posted on his journey and I will make it a point to see him on the Buffalo Wild Wings big screens if you let me know! ;)

I think this is a great example to introduce science to kids..lol. Explain about the force of motion, etc. Kids really resonate with these types of things.

While it has been ages since I have watched any kind of boxing, etc. I actually was one of those kids that watched the WWF. ( I have a brother who is 6′ 8 1/2, so it isn’t as though I had a choice..lol) I also had the pleasure of meeting many of the pro-wrestlers when I was a teenager at the Stevensville Country Club, so it was kind of interesting to see that they are human beings in person.

These athletes do work hard and just analyzing how they perform is really something to think about. Thanks for taking the time to post this!

I love this ‘stuff’ too, UFC, Boxing and yes, even wrestling ~yes, I know…it is entertainment, not necessarily sports…but I have all boys and I really do enjoy sharing this with them and my husband. : ) Thanks for another great post.

    Francis,
I adore how positive you are!!! I honestly don’t know where I am or if I’m in my element or not. I feel like I’m in free fall mode sometimes. But having a friend like you and reading posts like these helps me feel more grounded. Thank goodness for the positivity of you, and your sparkling personality!!!! I ADORE YOU, Francis!

Be proud to watch UFC. It can be inspiring to watch. The way these guys train hard for their fights and when they get in the octagon they many times give it everything they’ve got. I haven’t watched too much UFC lately but want to start watching it. I love a good Fight!
